On Sunday, supporters of the nationwide civic disobedience movement “I don’t pay” occupied 19 toll stations from Tripolis (Peloponnese) to Thessaloniki (North Greece) for two hours, lifted the toll station barriers and let motorists drive without paying. As new elected mayor of Stylida (Fthiotida), actor Apostolos Gletsos joined the civic anti-toll movement in his own special way.
Gletsos climbed on a municipality bagger and started fighting for his voters’ rights. He demolished the protective barriers near the toll station Pelasgia, creating a new passage for motorists to drive without paying toll fees. In eastern Fthiotida residents who want to move within the municipality boundaries are obliged to drive through the highway and pay expensive toll fees as the toll station cuts the area into two. Apostolos Gletsos stated that his target is to have municipality residents move within the boundaries without paying toll fees.
