Government vice president under attack

Government vice president Thodoros Pangalos was attacked and booed by citizens on Thursday during the Blessing of the Waters celebration in Athens, because of his recent public comments that civil servants are 'stray dogs' and that 'we all have spent ('ate' in Greek) the public money together'.

The vice president was attacked again later at the Kalyvia area of his constituency, where he went for lunch with his wife. People at the restaurant were asking the owner to 'treat him something from the things we ate together'.

Talking to a private television station, the government spokesperson Yiorgos Patalotis said that Thodoros Pangalos 'has a unique way of expressing himself and what he says is his own opinion and does not express the government's stance'.
