Greece loses 2013 Med Games

Greece will not be hosting the 2013 Mediterranean Games, according to reports, as the International Committee for the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) decided on Friday that host cities Larissa and Volos would not be able to provide adequate facilities.
The ICMG has yet to confirm its decision but reports indicated that a meeting of its members in Paris led to Greece
being stripped of the right to host the Games, which it won just over three years ago.
The Greek organising committee for the 2013 Mediterranean Games (OCMG) said it had not been officially notified of the decision to take the games from Volos and Larissa. It said in a statement that the cities had passed checks made by ICMG officials in August, September and December 2010.
"However, after a host of reports today about the ICMG's decision to stop the 17th Mediterranean Games from taking place in our country and given the lack of any official notification, the OCMG is convening an immediate board meeting to decide on its next actions," the organizing committee said in a statement on its website http://www.volos2013.gr/.
