Greek police detain 15 Afghans at airport

Kavala, Greece - Police say they have detained 15 Afghan migrants, including eight minors, and a Moroccan woman just before their scheduled departure for Genoa, Italy, on two small chartered planes.

Police say the arrests in this northeastern Greek city occurred Friday evening.

Kavala police say the 19-year-old Moroccan woman is an employee of a Milan travel agency that had chartered the two planes for €36,000 on behalf of a Britain-based client.

Police said Saturday the 15 Afghans were carrying fake Danish identity documents purchased in Athens for €1,000 each. Four taxi drivers who drove the Afghans from Athens, 680 kilometers  away, have also been detained.

Greece is the European Union's busiest transit point for immigrant traffickers.
