The perjury trial of doping-tainted sprinters Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou has started in Athens after four years of postponement.
Neither of the athletes appeared in court to answer misdemeanour charges of staging a motorcycle accident after missing a doping test on 12 August 2004, on the eve of the Athens Olympics.
Both deny wrongdoing, as does their
former coach, Christos Tzekos, who was in court on Friday accused of supplying banned substances.
The trial was adjourned until Tuesday.
Kenteris and Thanou, both Olympic medalists at the 2000 Sydney Games, are accused of making false statements and prompting doctors to issue false testimony regarding their alleged wounds.
Both withdrew from the games.
