Anxiety and grumbling about the government's own goals

The governmental ship has hit a political storm as a series of mistakes by members of
the ministerial council have resulted in the manifestation of grave concern about the forming political climate, but also in criticism to the headquarters, and towards particular ministers.

The messages received by Maximou lately are highly discouraging to the mood of public opinion against the government, while many issues remain open and top government officials expect initiatives of Prime Minister George Papandreou to streamline and control the situation by next week.

In fact the climate is so heavy in the parliamentary group because of the blunders of the ministers, that Apostolos Kaklamanis said, speaking in parliament, it is better to go to elections.

The nightmarish thing for the government is that 5 blunders happened in just one day:

The first was about the circular for semi-open spaces that led to the pardon of Interior vice minister Giorgos Ntolios. Some say that the matter is not finished and that Ntolios must be removed from the government.

The second was the palinodes of the Treasury for law firms, as shown by the settings of the bill for opening of closed professions. Giorgos Papakonstantinou received strong criticism – and among other things, the declaration of the PASOK parliamentary spokesman Christos Protopapas that members of the party would not vote if the amendment did not change.

The third was about the legislation of finance police for which grave criticism was expressed by green MPs.

The fourth was the disagreement via public radio between Dimitris Reppas and Tina Birbili for diesel engines, which caused their condemnation by the chairman of the parliamentary Environment committee, Kostas Kartalis!

And the fifth blunder was about the dispute of minister of Sea Affairs Giannis Diamantidis with his general secretary, whom he called to resign but to no avail (!).

Amidst all this, the Minister of Culture raised the issue, during the discussion with journalists, of communication deficit of the government, while Papandreou sought to strengthen Papakonstantinou asking him to coordinate some matters concerning the implementation of critical policies and while the noise at the expense of the minister of Finance for the sale of 50bil euro continues unabated.
