Confirming the reports of protothema.gr, Finance Minister George Papakonstantinou, after the Prime Minister’s request, dispatched
letters to the leaders of political parties on Friday, inviting them to a dialogue in order to develop the medium-term fiscal program.
In his letter to Mr. Samaras, Papariga, Karatzaferis, Tsipras, Kouvelis and Bakoyannis, Papakonstantinou calls on parties to nominate representatives for a frank and open dialogue during the preparation and presentation of the draft of a medium-term fiscal policy programme, at the end of March, with the ultimate goal being its approval in the end of May, by Parliament.
The letter highlights the need to develop a similar medium-term fiscal framework, given the size of the country’s debt, with the goal of drastically reducing deficits and taking initiatives that bring growth, while further concentrating on social cohesion.
Since these important decisions will determine the course of the country in the coming years, it is worthy of note that they will be beyond the parliamentary term of this government, and it is therefore necessary to rely on as wide a spectrum of society and politicians as possible.
