Wednesday’s massive protest is under the microscope of the Maximou
analysts as they estimate that the social reaction to their politics is entering a new dynamic phase. Government agents confess it is going to be a difficult spring for government and Papandreou especially if no actual results show up after the painful attempt of the past year and the sacrifices of the Greek people for dealing with the crisis.
In this phase they don’t see any preventing factors towards this since in the next three months there probably won’t be any serious positive development in the EU. «As long as the European solution is not coming, the reactions towards our politics will be encouraged giving the impression that the government is a boat sailing towards the unknown with only hope as a guide» a government agent said satirically.
Maybe for this reason, to understand the problem with social reactions, Papandreou said from Helsinki where he met with his Finish counterpart that he understands the protestors, because the changes endorsed by the government are painful.
'Sometimes I say to them: I too would like to protest with you because I am unhappy with what’s happening. Why should we be in this situation? But protests are not enough. We must change our country. We are determined and I think that the Greek people is determined' the PM said.
However, Papandreou appeared quite troubled in Helsinki from the climate in the EU and repeated many times all that our country has done to overcome the recession.
But this time said the government has taken 80% of the most difficult decisions, in contrast to what he said a month earlier, that our country has realized 95% of its obligations and the strict measures stop somewhere around here.
In view of the summits, he sent a message to the European leaders saying that 'our decisions will be of decisive importance, historical importance for the EU and Eurozone as well as the common note. And I believe the results will be positive if we succeed in taking these decisions, despite them being tough and complex, in the difficult world we live in, because things change rapidly in a globalized economy. So, even if these decisions are difficult I truly believe that we have the support of our peoples and will make euro strong, see that it stays strong and stable, stabilizing our economies and helping Europe become much more competitive throughout the globe'.
