Liberalisation Of Professions Brings Tension

Greek Government denies to publish a list of the opening professions, saying that it may have forgotten some of them due to their great amount.

Discussions about the closed professions started on Wednesday in intense atmosphere in the parliament΄s economic affairs committee and are expected to be finalized today.

The Government wants the

discussion to end as soon as possible as the Troika presses for a quick passage of the law in order to come into force in June, according to the Memorandum (a four-month transition period is required).

Almost all opposition parties requested yesterday the publication of the list, but their request wasn’t granted.

However, the issuer member of parliament Markos Bolaris (photo) revealed that the framework removes the restrictions in more than 100 professions, while today’s meeting will be critical as the interested working parties are invited.

The new legislation enacts the free practice of a profession, unless it is necessary for the public interest the restrictions to maintain..

The first part of the bill is comprehensive and provides what are the eight restrictions to be abolished, while the second part provides the abolishment of specific restrictions that apply to the professions of lawyer, notary engineer, architect and accountant.

There were concerns about the impact of the constraints’ lifting on many sectors and young professionals.
