Miltiadis Evert dies at 72

Miltiadis Evert, former president of the New Democracy party, died at 72. From January 6 was hospitalized at the Myocardial Unit of Hippokration
Hospital Athens. For years, faced as it was known, serious cardiovascular problems. 

The bad news announced from the podium of the Parliament the health minister Andreas Loverdos and expressed his condolences to his family.

Born in Athens on May 12, 1939, Miltiades Evert graduated from the Higher School of Economics (now Athens University of Economics). 
In 1974 nominated for first time and was elected MP in the area of Athens

Miltiadis Evert was elected Mayor of Athens (1987-1989). During his tenure as mayor created the "Athens 9.84", the first municipal radio station in Greece.

He became Chairman of the New Democracy party for four years (1993-1997). Evert is survived by his wife, American photographer Lisa Vanderpool and two daughters.
