Devetzi receives two-year ban from IAAF

Greek athletics is reeling from yet another doping-related shock as
IAAF announced on Saturday a two-year ban on long-jump champion Piyi Devetzi.

The International Amateur Athletics Federation confirmed on its website that the Greek Olympian skipped a doping test in 2009 and was banned until December 8, 2012.

This means that Devetzi will not able to contest the 2012 London Olympics.

Reports suggest that IAAF had imposed the ban without announcing it as it understood that the Greek champion was going to abandon athletics.

Yet when the federation found out that Devetzi was planning a comeback to action ahead of the London Games, it decided to make her ban known.

Devetzi was one of the last few Greek Olympians still in action and her doping ban is one more serious blow to the prestige of the country's athletics.
