The Greek government will discuss the country's possible involvement in the enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 for a no-fly zone over Libya later on Friday, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister George Papandreou. This was announced by foreign ministry spokesman Grigoris Delavekouras on Friday, who said Greece was coordinating its efforts with its partners and allies in order to ensure an end to hostilities in Libya.
The spokesman made the statement during an interview with the state-run NET radio, noting that the UNSC resolution was an important step for stopping bloodshed in Libya.
He also stressed that it was too early to decide on how Greece might be involved since a decision from the NATO Council was still pending.
"To begin with we are participating in NATO and in cooperation with the rest of our allies we will see what the next steps will be," Delavekouras said. He noted that talks underway within the alliance on this issue were "not easy" and that the government was waiting to see what decisions and plans emerged before deciding on the next step.
