Megaron-Athens Concert Hall celebrates 20th anniversary

The Megaron-Athens Concert Hall is celebrating its 20th
anniversary this year, and is planning a series of events for the year that was unveiled on Wednesday night during a special event at the Megaron attended by representatives of the state, culture and the country's wider social life.

A highlight of the events is a tribute to the late Nobel laureate Odysseas Elytis, the celebrated "poet of the Aegean", including an international conference and two nights of poetry readings and music to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The year 2011 has been declared 'Elytis Year' by Greece's culture and tourism ministry, and the Megaron is one of several foundations planning tributes to the great poet.

The conference "Odysseas Elytis: The 20th century in the poetry of Elytis. The poetry of Elytis in the 21st century" will be held on October 31 until November 1, exploring new approaches in the interpretation of his work.

On the anniversary of the poet's birth on November 2 and on the following day, November 3 there will be nights of poetry reading set to music composed by Georgios Kouroupos.
