Tsipras: 'To say we won, we should have got something"

Coalition of the radical Left (SYRIZA parliamentary alliance) leader Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday said that he does not share prime minister George Papandreou's optimism on the outcome of last Friday's EU summit, charging that the only thing the government succeeded in doing was to put a noose around the necks of the Greek people.

"To say that we won, we should have got something out of it. We simply got what the others wanted to give us," Tsipras said.

Speaking during a briefing of the summit outcome by Papandreou in parliament, Tsipras severely criticised the government and main opposition New Democracy (ND), accusing the leaders of the two mainstream parties of "rigging a scenery of controlled polarisation, with Laos leader George Karatzaferis as a wedge, in order to lead the country to (early general) elections in anticipation of a controlled consensus emerging".
