Video: Charisteas gifts Schalke victory, Tzavellas scores goal - record

Angelos Charisteas and Giorgos Tzavellas were on
target on Saturday in the Bundesliga while Fanis Gekas has remained quiet since last December.

The match between Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt was full of Greek colour as two out of the three goals came from Greek feet, with Charisteas scoring his first goal for Schalke just one minute into his debut for the Gelsenkirchen club.

It was Tzavellas who equalised Schalke’s opening goal, scoring a spectacular goal for the Frankfurt club from 73 metres (new record in Bundesliga) after 69 minutes.

Yet Schalke’s coach Felix Magath introduced Euro-2004 winner Charisteas at the 83rd minute and the former Ajax and Nuremberg striker needed no more than a minute to score the goal that gave the Champions League quarterfinalists all three points.

As if the two Greek scorers were not enough in this game, Schalke also fielded another Greek, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, while Eintracht started the game with Yiannis Amanatidis and introduced Gekas as a substitute at the 63rd minute.

However, Gekas has almost three months without a goal and has not added to his tally of 14 goals since the end of the first half of the Bundesliga.
