Athinaikos win Greek women's cup

Athinaikos won the Greek Women's Cup on Monday at
Iloupoli, after struggling to beat outsiders Proteas Voulas 64-61.
Facing a stronger challenge than expected, the Vyronas side, who are the breakaway league leaders, scraped through in the end after trailing 52-51 after the third period in a close game that entertained fans.
Athinaikos won the cup for the second consecutive year thanks to 15 points from LaToya Davis and 14 from Ruth Riley, while German forward Linda Frohlich was the final's top scorer registering 20 points for Proteas.
Separately, Greek super star Evina Maltsi announced on Monday she may quit the national team after the European Championship of this summer in Poland.
Maltsi, 32, was voted the Most Valuable Player of the previous Eurobasket, in 2009 at the courts of Latvia.
Also on Monday the federation announced that the men;s cup final betwen Olympiakos and Panathinaikos will take place on Monday, May 16, with 600 fans from each club.
