EC: There was no meeting on Greece debt restructuring

No meeting was held among top European Union policy makers to
discuss the restructuring of Greece΄s debt, a spokeswoman for the European Commission said Monday, according to Dow Jones Newswires.

"There was no meeting on debt restructuring on Greece, [Economic Affairs Commissioner Olli] Rehn participates in a number of meetings involving issues of financial stability in Greece and in other countries," she said when asked about a press report saying that Rehn, French Finance Minister and others recently held a conference call to discuss such a possibility.

Der Spiegel reported that Olli Rehn had a conference call with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble, French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central Bank about the possibility of a Greek debt restructuring.

If creditors grant Greece΄s request for a reduction in the amount it owes, the entire euro zone could face a crisis of confidence, Trichet said in the conference call, according to Der Spiegel.
