The delays in the progress of scientific research programmes and postdoctoral research are being noted in a letter addressed on Tuesday to Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou (photo) by ruling Pasok MP Kostas Kartalis.
Kartalis referred to the problems created in scientific research as a result of the notable delays in the progress of ministry of education "Thales" and "Archimedes" research programmes, as well as, in postdoctoral research.
The Pasok MP pointed out that the delays weaken the country's higher education institutions and research centres considering that the available funds earmarked for scientific research become smaller, contribute to the 'brain drain' of scientists abroad and hamper the utilisation of 230 million euros in community funds.
Kartalis called on the education minister to undertake initiatives aimed at speeding up procedures for the evaluation and approval of research proposals.
