PM: Greece being reborn despite difficulties

"Greece is changing today and is being reborn despite the difficulties," Prime minister George Papandreou said on the weekend, adding that despite the difficulties, the Greek people were overcoming pessimism and breaking with fatalism, taking change into their own hands with the conviction that they will succeed.

In a message from the island of Hydra on the weekend, where he spent the Easter holiday, Papandreou noted that ""Easter symbolises for Hellenism, for all of us, the beginning of a new life."

The prime minister pointed out that "through the difficulties and the efforts of all of us, we are changing mentalities and conceptions and we are thinking responsibly of the common benefit, of our children, of tomorrow."

The prime minister expressed optimism that "despite the difficulties, we are walking together on this path, we are breaking with pessimism and fatalism and taking change into our own hands, certain that we shall succeed."

Papandreou also stressed: "We shall succeed in the end in having a country of justice and growth of which we shall be proud. Optimistically, decisively, we are making a Greece of creation."
