Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met here on Thursday with his
visiting Greek counterpart George A. Papandreou to discuss, among others, the Polish presidency of the EU and the relations between the two countries.Tusk and Papandreou also discussed cooperation within the EU and the latest development in North Africa as well as the situation in the region of Mediterranean Sea and the financial crisis in view of the upcoming Polish presidency.
Poland will take over EU's rotating six-month presidency on July 1. Tusk has been consulting with EU states leaders over priorities during its presidency in recent months.
During a joint press conference with Papandreou, Tusk said that equal treatment of southern and eastern European states is a great challenge for Poland's EU presidency.
Papandreou, who is paying a one-day visit to Poland, expressed the conviction that Poland will perform its presidency in the best possible way.
The Greek guest added that the two also discussed budget issues, EU's Common Agricultural Policy and the Neighborhood and Migration Policy.
According to the Greek prime minister, migration movements and waves of refugees pose a very serious challenge forcing the EU to take up a coordinated, balanced and fair reaction.
