Basketball: Panathinaikos and Olympiakos sweep opponents in semis

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos swept their opponents in the league semifinals on Monday to set up the final that everyone had expected from the start of the season.

Panathinaikos thrashed PAOK 105-65 at the Olympic Sports Hall in Maroussi to win the best-of-five series 3-0, but may have lost forward Stratos Perperoglou for the first game of the finals.

The Greek star, who had scored 33 points in Game 2 two days earlier in Thessaloniki, got injured in his shoulder toward the end of the first half and will probably miss the first clash with Olympiakos in Piraeus on Thursday.

Aleks Maric scored 13 points for the Greens, while Nick Calathes and Costas Kaimakoglou added 12 each.

In Piraeus Olympiakos had a slightly more difficult task against Aris, but had no problem in winning for the third time in five days, this time with an 87-64 score.

This was Olympiakos's 35th win in as many domestic matches this season, with Yotam Halperin scoring 15 points and Vassilis Spanoulis registering 13.

This will be the 11th time that Panathinaikos and Olympiakos face off in the A1 league finals, with Olympiakos having the home advantage. The series will be decided in three wins.

PAOK and Aris will meet for the third spot, that leads to next season's Euroleague.
