Hippy Reunion Takes Place June 11th-13th, Matala, Crete

Fifty years later, Matala is revived! The “Flower Children” set a meeting place again at their famed haunt to remember the carefree times of the 60s and 70s and their youthful adventures. In a resort in Iraklion,
Crete with its famous caves, many  hippies all over the world will come on the weekend of the 11th to 13th of June for the festival for the hippies inspired by the German journalist Neg Strochmagier and his compatriot, publisher Thomas Balistier.
The booking accommodation in the village and the surrounding areas and the abundance of the huge camps has come close to 100%! Already, the entries of the hippies, now 60 and 70 years have passed all expectations, and dozens of media from Austria, Germany and America will be in Matala to cover the event. As the mayor of Festos, Marie-Petrakogiorgi Anyfantaki said, the e-mails received by the municipality are very encouraging regarding the impending crush of visitors for the reunion of hippies: “There is a very strong interest from Europeans, from foreigners who live in distant countries, such as Australia and America, from Greeks living in various parts of the country, even from locals! “The purpose of the municipality is to establish an institution and create an annual thematic festival which will target mainly the youth of Europe.”
