Rockfall at Greek island kills one US tourist

Greek police say boulders dislodged from the towering volcanic cliffs in the island of Santorini have killed an American tourist and injured another four foreign women.

A police statement says the 52-year-old man was hit as he negotiated the steep cobbled path winding down to the sea from the village of Oia on the Aegean Sea resort island. The cause of the landslide was unclear.

The statement says the victim's wife and daughter were also injured, as well as two Mexican women. It did not name the victims.

Santorini mayor Anastasios Nikolaos Zorzos told private Skai TV that the dead tourist had been riding on a donkey when he was hit.

Zorzos said that landslides in the island are "not a usual phenomenon."
