FinMin: Gradual Solidarity Contribution Of 1-5%
















Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos announced on Thursday afternoon that MPs, local councilors, general secretaries of public organizations would be taxed by 5%, stating that measures will fail if there΄s no sense of fairness. 


He also said that the government sticking with emergency "solidarity" contribution, ranging from 1-5% on incomes of €12k, but youth under 30, pensioners over 65 and people with special needs retain €12,000 tax allowance level, which normally declined €8,000.

The equation of taxation in fuel and heating oil won’t be implemented, but there would be a slight increase in heating oil tax. Moreover, he didn’t rule out additional measures.

“We need to start talking about a new, proper, fair and growth-stimulating tax system as soon as possible”, newly appointed FinMin said.

Regarding the holding and roll over of Greek debt, Venizelos said that he is hopeful as to the efforts to apply the Vienna Initiative, stressing that any private participation would be clearly voluntary.
