The crisis in Greece threatens to destabilize the regional economy and the proper functioning of monetary union, European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said in a speech on Tuesday.
Almunia, who was previously the EU's economic affairs commissioner, said the European economy was going through a "period of acute crisis."
