Sotiris Kyrgiakos decides to stay at Anfield

Greek defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos is likely to stay at Liverpool for one more season, according to British press reports, after activating a clause in his contract.

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that Kyrgiakos has taken the option to renew his contract that is for two-plus-one seasons, and continue his relatively successful spell at Anfield.

"Sotis" was linked with a number of clubs in Europe this summer, including Panathinaikos, but the 32-year-old has reached the number of games required by his contract's clause for renewal and took the option, although it is not certain he will figure in Kenny Dalglish's plans for next season.

There is speculation that Liverpool will acquire another central defender this summer, which may mean that Kyrgiakos will be on the sidelines.

Last October Kyrgiakos was voted Liverpool Player of the Month.
