Subotic leaves Aris, fires parting shot

Lefteris Subotic’s tenure on the Aris bench came to an end on Friday following the club’s failure to snatch the third spot from PAOK this season.

Aris announced that the two parties decided against renewing their contract for the new season. The Thessaloniki had hired Subotic to replace sacked Israeli coach Sharon Drucker in mid-season.

Subotic was never welcome at Aris this season by the club’s hardcore fans, who bore a grudge at him from the past, from game between Piraikos and Aris. This is why the biggest fan club, Super 3, boycotted the team’s home games while Subotic was on the Aris bench.

The Slovenian-Greek fired a parting shot on Saturday, stating that “I could not see myself in a club governed from outside, through threats and other things.”

He promised to hold a press conference in Athens shortly to explain certain things about the present and the past.
