Number of building permits decreased by 43.9% in March 2011, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said in a report on Friday.
According to provisional data published by ELSTAT, in March 2011 the total Building Activity (private-public), in the whole country - which is calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits - amounted to 2,747. This figure corresponds to 471.9 thousand m2 of surface and 1,740.2 thousand m3 of volume, reflecting respectively a 43.9% decrease in the number of building permits, a 44.5% decrease in surface and a 40.4% decrease in volume, compared to the same month of 2010.
Private Building Activity, in the whole country, summed to 2,733 building permits, corresponding to 453.1 thousand m2 of surface and 1,665.6 thousand m3 of volume. In comparison with the same month of 2010, there is a 43.7% decrease in the number of building permits, a 45.0% decrease in surface and a 40.5 % decrease in volume. Public Building Activity in the whole country in March 2011 amounted to 14 building permits, corresponding to 18.8 thousand m2 of surface and 74.6 thousand m3 of volume. The Public Building Activity accounted for the 4.3 % of the total building volume in March 2011.
In the last twelve months, from April 2010 until March 2011, the total Building Activity (Private and Public) in the whole country, calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits, amounted to 43,834. This figure corresponds to 8,927.6 thousand m2 of surface and 32,204.9 thousand m3 of volume, reflecting a decrease 21.5 % decrease in the number of building permits, a 29.4 % decrease in surface and a 30.8 % decrease in volume, compared with the corresponding period of April 2009 until March 2010.
In the same period from April 2010 until March 2011, Private Building Activity in the whole country recorded a 21.3 % decrease in the number of issued building permits, a 29.6 % decrease in surface and a 30.6 % decrease in volume, compared with the respective period from April 2009 until March 2010. For the same period, the Public Building Activity accounted for the 3.4 % of the total building volume.
During the period January-March 2011, the total Building Activity(private-public) in the whole country recorded a 48.4% decrease in the number of issued building permits, a 56.6 decrease in surface and a 54.3% decrease in volume, compared with the same period of the year 2010.
During the same period, January-March 2011, private building activity in the whole country recorded a 48.2% decrease in the number of issued building permits,a 56.5% decrease in surface and a 54.2% decrease in volume in comparison with the same period of January-March 2010.
