Papaloukas signs for Maccabi Tel Aviv

Playmaker Thodoris Papaloukas is to join his former Olympiakos teammate Sofoklis Schortsanitis at Maccabi Tel Aviv after signing a one-year deal with last season’s Euroleague finalists.
The Israeli side announced his transfer late on Saturday. This is the second time the 34-year-old former Greece captain has gone to play abroad, after his successful spell at CSKA Moscow.
He was a free agent as Olympiakos did not renew his contract.
Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi told Israeli media: “This is a big signing for us, as he is a player of great quality, has huge experience and has played in the courts of all of Europe and taken part in Euroleague finals, as well as playing for Greece.
“By signing him we secure calm and security in our game, and a playmaker who can do an excellent job. He wanted to play for Maccabi, too, and we are very happy to have agreed with him.”
