Olympiakos beat 10-man Panetolikos at home to spend Saturday night on
top of the Super League table. There were also home wins for Atromitos
and OFI.
The Reds have climbed one point above Panathinaikos, who
are visiting Aris at Thessaloniki on Sunday, but have played two more
games than the Greens.
It took a mediocre Olympiakos just over an
hour to break the deadlock at the Karaiskakis Stadium as stubborn
Panetolikos held on until Andre Rocha upended Djamel Abdoun in the box,
which led to a penalty and a red card for the offender.
Marko
Pantelic duly converted the penalty, while Rafik Djebbour made it 2-0 in
the 74th minute. However, television replays showed he started from an
offside position.
In the last 15 minutes the hosts slowed down
again, given their lead and their one-man advantage, ahead of the
crucial Champions League game against Arsenal on December 6.
Costas
Mitroglou, an Olympiakos striker who plays on loan at Atromitos gave
the Peristeri side victory over Ergotelis as he scored the game’s only
goal.
Reports suggest that after the match there was a serious
clash between the owner of Atromitos, Giorgos Spanos and the manager of
Ergotelis, Nikos Karageorgiou.
OFI returned to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 win over Asteras Tripolis at Iraklio.
After
a goalless first half, Mirnes Sisic, Fotis Papoulis and substitute
Jordi Lopez scored for the Cretan side, who dominated the midfield
throughout the game.
