Panathinaikos became the clear favourites to get a ticket for the final of the Greek Cup after defeating Aris 87-58 at home on Wednesday in the first leg of the semifinal.
The Greens were always on top, although Aris had a good second period and seemed to be troubling Panathinaikos through consecutive baskets by PJ Tucker. The first half ended 43-37.
Yet the hosts were far better in the second half and strangled Aris's attack once
Tucker came out due to fouls.
Costas Tsartsaris had a fantastic game for Panathinaikos, ending up with 19 points and eight rebounds. Tucker scored 21 for Aris.
The other semifinal between PAOK and Olympiakos in Thessaloniki was stopped in the third period with the score at 47-37 for Olympiakos due to an object from the stands that hit one of the referees.
The match officials called on fans to evacuate the stadium, but after one hour and a half without play there were still some fans who would not go away.
The return legs are scheduled for February 9.
