Indentity checks on all ships

Out of the frying pan and into the fire for the Ministry of Citizen Protection, which is responsible for the Coast Guard.
After the ferry trip of 230 immigrants between Chania and Piraeus without official papers, ultimately ending up in the Law School, the Chief of the Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Konstantinos Soulis, was ordered by Minister Christos Papoutsis to send a clear message to all port authorities and shipping companies that they must adhere to their responsibility of checking the identities of all passengers.

The Port Authority will conduct continuous and rigorous checks to verify the respondents’ compliance (companies-ships-shipping agents) to applicable law on the obligations regarding registration and confirmation of on-board passenger data. This obligation extends to both single and group tickets issued.
