Kerkyra and Diagoras qualify to Cup quarterfinals

Kerkyra and Diagoras, the teams from Corfu and Rhodes respectively, qualified to the last eight of the Greek Cup on Wednesday after overcoming their visitors in the round of 16 replays.
Having drawn 1-1 in the first match in Thessaloniki last month, Kerkyra and Iraklis played out a rather dull goalless draw in the 90 minutes of regulation time and the 30 minutes of extra time, taking the tie to the penalty shoot-out.

The only player not to find the target in this process was Iraklis's Karim Soltani, as former Cardiff, Hartlepool, Coventry and Swansea keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos saved his kick to send Kerkyra to the quarterfinals with a 5-3 score.
On Rhodes Diagoras became the only second-division side to advance to the cup's last eight beating Football League rivals Ethnikos Asteras 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal by Bartosz Tarachulski.
The Polish star headed the ball home from a corner at the 29th minute, but Diagoras needed the penalty save by their goalkeeper Charalambos Tabasis 10 minutes on to win the game, despite playing with 10 men since the penalty as defender Nikos Chatzopoulos was sent off.
Tabasis sent the penalty kick by Dimitris Diamantis against the post and Ethnikos Asteras, who had drawn 1-1 with Diagoras in the first match last month, failed to capitalise on their one-man advantage.
In the quarterfinals Kerkyra will face Olympiakos Volou and Diagoras will come up against Atromitos. Ties will be played on January 19 and February 2.
