PM to brief President on current affairs

Prime minister George Papandreou will call on President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday to brief him on "all current affairs", while foreign minister Dimitris Droutsas will chair a meeting of the Council on Foreign Policy in the afternoon on regional developments, with the focus on Turkey, the Cyprus issue, the Western Balkans and the Middle East.

The premier's discussion with the President is expected to focus particularly on matters concerning the economy, as well as Papandreou's recent talks with Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a visit to Erzurum late last week.

Meanwhile, government spokesman George Petalotis announced that an off-the-agenda discussion on Greece's national issues will be held in parliament later in the month, during which Papandreou will brief the House in detail.
