Public transport strike continues

The first working day of the New Year in Greece begins with protests of employees in the Athens public transport.

The Athens metro and the electric railway (ISAP), as well as buses and trolleys, will operate between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. today as workers walk off the job early in the morning and late at night
in an ongoing protest against a government cost-cutting drive. The tram will run between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. today while the suburban railway (Proastiakos) will operate normally.

Employees in all types of public transport plan January 5 and 10 fresh 24-hour strikes against government's austerity measures, which foresee lowering of salaries and restructuring of transportation system in Greece's capital.
