Kenteris, Thanou ordered to appear in court

An Athens court has ordered Greek sprinters Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou to appear in court to answer questions in the perjury case against them stemming from allegations they staged a motorcycle crash to avoid a doping test on the eve of the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The trial has dragged on for years due to frequent postponements. The court on Tuesday adjourned until February 21, and ordered the two sprinters to appear for the next hearing.

The athletes, both medalists at the 2000 Sydney Games, face misdemeanor charges over the accident. They are accused of making false statements and causing doctors to issue false testimony regarding their wounds.

Both deny any wrongdoing.
