EA Patras edged closer to making the last four of the Challenge Cup, Europe's third-tier club competition, after beating Selver Tallinn 3-1 in Estonia on Thursday.
The Peloponnesian side now need a home win by any score in the return leg on Wednesday, February 9, to reach the semifinals.
Selver took the first set 25-20 in front of more than 1000 fans in the
Estonian capital, but EA Patras improved as the match went on.They took the second set 25-23, the third 25-22 and thrashed Selver 25-15 in the fourth.
EAP coach Giorghos Christopoulos said after the match: "This was a very important victory in front of a capacity crowd against a side that had not even dropped a set at home before."
"After the first set we found our tempo and reached our target. Of course nothing is finished yet, we have only made the first step and qualification will be decided in the second leg at Patras," the Greek coach stated.
