A rescue operation was underway on Sunday afternoon to assist an injured mountain climber on the White Mountains range on the island of Crete.
A local Fire Brigade station was alerted of the injury at 4:20 p.m. by other mountaineers, and ten minutes later began the climb to the spot, at an altitude of 1,620 meters.
The 35-year-old mountain climber was injured in the leg as he was trekking in the area together with two other mountaineers.
The rescue team, which includes Emak special operations members and Hellenic Red Cross rescuers, will require at least two hours to reach the spot, according to estimations.
Very low temperatures were prevailing in the area, according to rescuers.
