Schaeuble: Greek euro exit would be wrong

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told Focus magazine that a Greek exit from euro would be wrong.

It “is not taboo, but I think it’s wrong”, he said in an interview.

Temporary exits from the euro would mean the “the beginning of the end” of the single currency, according to Schaeuble.

He said that it would be “catastrophic” for the German economy if Greece returns to drachma, as it would strengthen the euro, damping German exports.

Moreover, German funds directed toward aiding indebted countries are an investment in the euro, Schaeuble added.
