Another day in hell for all passengers in Athens, after a second day of protests by workers in public transportation
on Wednesday. ETHEL buses, trolley buses, Electric Railway (ISAP) and the Metro railway will remain at a standstill.
Employees met during a General Assembly and decided on
strikes throughout the week.
Specifically, bus workers will strike for 48 hours until tomorrow. A work stoppage will also occur on Friday, from 11am to 3:30pm.
Subway workers will decide on two 24-hour strikes for Wednesday and Thursday, whereas they will carry out a 4-hour work stoppage from 12pm on Friday, and gather in protest in central Athens.
Trolley workers will strike tomorrow. On Friday, they will stop working from 11am until 3 pm.
Meanwhile, chaos prevailed on Athenian streets on Tuesday, with cars forming endless queues and congestion becoming unbearable.
Since early in the morning, all main roads were gridlocked, while chaos prevailed in the center of the city since the roads remained closed due to protests by workers of ETHEL and ILPAP.
New ticket prices.
February 1st was the day of new higher prices up to 80% in public transport tickets. Old tickets with the previous price can be used up to Monday, 14th of February.
From the 15th of February and up until the 1st of April, old tickets will be exchanged for new tickets of equal value. The exchange will take place at the offices of the Public Transportation Organization (OASA), 25 Metsovou Street, and in the metro stations of “Syntagma” and “Panepistimio”.
