Industrial turnover index up 13.9 percent in January

The turnover index in the industrial sector (measuring both the domestic and external markets) jumped 13.9 percent in January this year, compared with the same month in 2010, after an increase of 0.4 percent recorded in January last year, the independent Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Tuesday. 
 
The statistics service, in a report, attributed this increase to a 5.6 percent rise in the turnover index in the mining sector and a 14 percent jump in manufacturing. The domestic market turnover index rose 5.0 percent in January, while the external market turnover index soared 39.3 percent.
