Olympiakos win first women's trophy

Olympiakos won the women’s Cup on Saturday beating AEK in the
final with a 3-2 score for their first trophy in women’s volleyball.

The final took place on the eastern Aegean island of Samos and was a wonderful contest that was thoroughly enjoyed by the peaceful crowd at the stands.

Olympiakos had to come back from a 2-1 deficit to put an end to a series of six finals in league and cup where they constantly lost and to claim some silverware at last.

The players of coach Yiannis Nikolakis took the first set 25-22, but AEK improved their game to take the next two 25-17, 25-19.

However, Olympiakos stormed into the fourth set with a 6-0 advantage to win it 25-18 and force a tie-break.

Led by the final’s Most Valuable Player, Evi Hadava, Olympiakos took the fifth set 15-10 and the trophy, with Nikolakis stating that “at last the efforts of the girls have been vindicated”.
