NBG Q1 profit rises 39 pct y/y, beats fcast


Greece's biggest lender National Bank (NBGr.AT) on Thursday reported a 39 percent year-on-year rise in first quarter profit, with its Turkish subsidiary Finansbank making up for weak business at home.

NBG reported net profit of 157 million euros ($222 million), above market expectations. Analysts polled by Reuters were forecasting net profit of 116 million euros on average, with estimates ranging from 97 to 134 million. 
NBG said Turkish unit Finansbank's earnings rose 28 percent to 151 million euros year-on-year.
