Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party spokesman Yiannis Mihelakis on Friday referred to the proposals unveiled a day earlier in Zappeion by ND leader Antonis Samaras, as well as, to the situation inside the government, the rampant unemployment and the phenomena of violence in Athens inner city districts.
Mihelakis cited Samaras' speech when he was called to comment on media reports alleging that the ND leader is pressured from abroad and the EU-IMF troika to give his consent to the government's policy.
As regards government reactions to the economic programme unveiled by Samaras for leading the country out of the crisis, he said that "the government stance is not unified".
"Our proposal suggests a 'creative shock' as the first step for the country to exit recession. There will be other proposals as well that will concern shipping, the farmers, etc. The first reactions are very positive," he said.
Referring to the proposal for the legalization of unlicensed buildings, Mihelakis said it is "realistic and in absolute compliance with the constitution", pointing out that each case will be examined separately.
Commenting on the situation inside the government, he spoke about "undeclared war with hot incidents".
He characterized the rising unemployment as a "nightmare that becomes more and more scary", adding that the government has adopted the wrong policy mix that has disastrous consequences on the economy and tears down the country's social cohesion.
The ND spokesman characterized the situation in downtown Athens as "desperate", stressing that "crime rules, as well as, violence and vigilante phenomena that kill the economy and paralyze social life."
"Small minorities have turned the inner city districts into a war zone, while the government watches what takes place in a state of paralysis making comments like an observer that has no responsibility," he said.
Mihelakis repeated that ND categorically condemns all forms of violence regardless of its origin and added that Samaras has pledged that as soon as ND is elected in office the Pasok-sponsored naturalization legislation will be abolished and be replaced by a policy similar to that implemented by all European states.
