Attiko Metro: New stations to be launched within the next 6-12 months
The change of leadership in operating company AMEL and the disengagement of works in seven new metro stations are the two main factors to help Attiko Metro recover.
Sources note that the appointment of Vassilios-Ioannis Spyrakos as president and CEO of company Fixed Transport (STASY), the merger of Electric Railways, Tram and Amel, moves in the right direction.
Spyrakos is promoted from TRAM president and CEO, as it was considered that as traffic expert could manage more successfully the issues of fixed transport, compared to its predecessor Sarantis Michalopoulos.
Regarding the seven new stations, which remain out of network, as they are compatible only with Siemens systems, Infrastructure Ministry officials note that the procedures have finally resumed.
The relative agreements have been approved, and the new stations (Argiroupoli, Alimos, Elliniko, Ilioupoli, Peristeri, Anthoupoli, Haidari) are expected to be launched within the next 6-12 months.
Regarding the extension of Attiko Metro to Piraeus, the appointment of a contractor is expected in the coming months, after the approval of the project by the Central Archaeological Council.
The new 7.6 km line would cover western suburbs and Piraeus.
