The Family Home of Mikis Theodorakis Will Be Used as Museum

The family home of Mikis Theodorakis in Galatas, Chania will be used as a museum that will house an  exhibition of items related to the composer.

The Mayor of  Chania was committed to make this issue one of  the Municipality’s priorities, and to ask for the integration of the conversion project in the  Programmes of the Ministry of Culture.
“This is a property of great historical value, which is inextricably linked with the history of the place,” stated the Mayor of Chania, adding that in times of crisis we should respect and preserve our culture.
The Benaki Museum will assist and provide the necessary  expertise in the renovation.
The family home of Mikis Theodorakis, in Galatas, was purchased from the former Municipality of New Cydonia (under Mayor Emmanuel Stamatakis) by unanimous decision of the council, for 200 000 euros, in order for it to become a showroom where items related to Theodorakis’ family in Galatas can be displayed.
