Greek FA chief calls for reform

The head of the Greek Football Association has proposed that the governing body suspend operations in an attempt to reform the country’s domestic leagues.

Sofoklis Pilavios called a vote on the proposal by the FA executive that is expected later Friday, saying he wanted to take the game out of the “hands of hooligans, violence, and match-fixers.”
Pilavios wants the FA to be suspended on Monday—after Greece’s 2012 European Championship qualifier at home against Malta Saturday. Greece leads Group F after three straight wins.
A suspension would halt domestic and international games by Greek clubs and the national team. Greece is set to play Ecuador in a friendly in New York on Tuesday, and plays its next Euro qualifier in Israel on Sept. 2.
