Stavros Lambrinidis took up his duties as Foreign Minister on Friday.
Before assuming his duties as Foreign Minister, Mr. Lambrinidis was – since 2004 – a Pasok MEP and the Vice President of the Party of European Socialist (PES), and in 2009 he was elected Vice President of the European Parliament, responsible for theParliament’s international relations and communication policy in member states and third countries.
He has served as an advisor at the Foreign Affairs and Education Ministries, as Foreign Ministry Secretary General for Greeks Abroad (1996-1999), as Ambassador ad personam of the Hellenic Republic (1999-2004), and as Director-General of the International Olympic Truce Centre (2000-2004).
