Psomiadis announces Kavala's move to Thessaloniki - Move opens way for merger with Iraklis

Kavala president Stavros Psomiadis announced on Saturday that the Super League club will be leaving its hometown for good this summer to move to Thessaloniki.

The announcement is paving the way for the full merger of Kavala with Iraklis, which the Thressaloniki club members also voted for a few days earlier.

Psomiadis, who was only released earlier this week on bail after his alleged participation in the match-fixing scandal, has for the last few weeks been at loggerheads with the Mayor of Kavala, Constantinos Simitzis regarding the use and the lease of the municipal stadium of the Macedonian city.

Psomiadis seems to have found the pretext he needed to move the club from Kavala, as on Friday he tried to submit an aplicatioon to rename the club “New Iraklis”.

Should the merger clear the thorough investigation by the Professional Sports Commission which the General Secretary for Sports Panos Bitsaxis has demanded, the new club will be based at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium, home of Iraklis, bear Iraklis’s colours and have the tax registration number of Kavala.
