Striking taxi drivers hold new protest - video

Hundreds of striking Greek taxi drivers are demonstrating outside a government building in Athens against plans to open up their profession to more competition.

Protesters picketing the transport ministry on Tuesday also periodically blocked the nearby busy Mesogeion avenue.

Taxi drivers have been on indefinite strike for more than two weeks to protest new licensing laws that they say will lead to a glut of new taxis on the streets and cut deep into their earnings.

A series of meetings with government officials has failed to produce any compromise.
